“Growing up in California and taking car trips with my family allowed me to see a lot of this imagery. By the 60’s and 70’s, I noticed that much of it was starting to fade away. All of the things I witnessed then started to make me think that some day I would like to record those things. So now I am.”
Meet Dennis Ziemienski
Dennis Ziemienski is an internationally acclaimed American painter, illustrator, and designer whose original oil paintings celebrate the nostalgia, beauty, and spirit of vintage America. A native of San Francisco, California, Dennis graduated cum laude from the California College of Arts and Crafts, where he developed the technical skill and artistic vision that have defined his distinguished career.
For decades, Dennis has built a reputation for creating richly colored, highly detailed paintings inspired by the architecture, automobiles, landscapes, and everyday moments of the early 20th century. His work blends realism with storytelling, inviting viewers to step into scenes that capture the romance of roadside America, classic diners, historic landmarks, vintage vehicles, and the timeless character of the American West.
Dennis' artwork has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions throughout the United States and has received many prestigious awards. His paintings are included in the permanent collections of several respected museums, including the Booth Museum, Tucson Museum of Art, Western Spirit: Scottsdale's Museum of the West, Bakersfield Museum of Art, the Whitney Western Art Museum, and the Hilbert Art Museum of California Art at Chapman University.
In addition to his work as a professional artist, Dennis has shared his knowledge with future generations by teaching at the California College of Arts and Crafts and the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. Throughout his career, he has maintained studios in both California and New York, continually evolving his artistic voice while remaining inspired by America's history and visual culture.
Today, Dennis continues to create original oil paintings for gallery exhibitions, museum shows, private collectors, commissioned works, and large-scale murals. In 2024, he published his first career retrospective book, The Art of Dennis Ziemienski, followed by a major retrospective exhibition at Medicine Man Gallery in Tucson, Arizona, celebrating decades of artistic achievement.
Dennis is represented by leading galleries across the United States and participates in annual exhibitions throughout the year. When he isn't in the studio, he enjoys traveling with his wife, Anne, their daughter, Sofia, and her partner, Nate, finding fresh inspiration in the landscapes, architecture, and people they encounter along the way.
